As a self-employed business owner, I enjoyed this article on several levels. It shows the mainstream work-force is becoming more aligned with what works nowadays. A shift like this in the general workforce this could really help workers and the US society in a few ways, beside the obvious reduction in energy consumption, traffic congestion, etc.
Unfortunately I don’t foresee my 7×12 hour work-week going anywhere anytime soon… but it’s nice to dream! Just imagine.. a 3 day weekend every week, then I’d just need a pool! Ahh, ok.. back to work!
In an era when most of us seem to be working more hours than ever (provided we’re still lucky enough to have jobs), 17,000 people in Utah have embarked on an unusual experiment. A year ago, the Beehive State became the first in the U.S. to mandate a four-day workweek for most state employees, closing offices on Fridays in an effort to reduce energy costs. The move is different from a furlough in that salaries were not cut; nor was the total amount of time employees work. They pack in 40 hours by starting earlier and staying later four days a week. But on that fifth (glorious) day, they don’t have to commute, and their offices don’t need to be heated, cooled or lit.

FOX12 in Oregon decided to do a little investigative reporting on computer repair shops. Unfortunately for the Geeksquad, someone exposed their habit of “over-diagnosing” and over-charging their customers. Check out the video below for the full report. The Geeksquad missed the mark pretty badly..

The Obama administration’s new drug czar says he wants to banish the idea that the U.S. is fighting “a war on drugs,” a move that would underscore a shift favoring treatment over incarceration in trying to reduce illicit drug use.
In his first interview since being confirmed to head the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske said Wednesday the bellicose analogy was a barrier to dealing with the nation’s drug issues.
“Regardless of how you try to explain to people it’s a ‘war on drugs’ or a ‘war on a product,’ people see a war as a war on them,” he said. “We’re not at war with people in this country.”

As a web guy, I’ve been using Mozilla’s Firefox web browser for several years, pretty much since it was released. Back in the day when I used Windows 2000 and right when I started using Windows XP, I began removing Internet Explorer from my person systems to prevent possible malware attacks and browser vulnerabilities. I’ve used several methods over the years to uninstall internet explorer, but this is by far the easiest utility I’ve used.

I was getting some coffee with Josie the other day at the Starbucks in Santee, CA trolley center and I look outside and see a homeless man with his shopping cart full of possessions next to him and a Starbucks table setup as his office desk. I’m guessing he had a starbucks wifi subscription because he was browsing digg??!? Talk about priorities!!

Working outside Starbucks with a laptop, monitor, and speakers.. and of course Arizona ice tea. I like this man’s style, lol.

Shelby Supercars just released an Electric version of their flagship supercar, the Ultimate Aero. The electric car boasts a 10 minute charge time and over 1000hp with 800ft/lbs tq. Shelby aims to lay the smack down on Tesla motorsports and seems to be doing so rather mercilessly. The first preproduction Ultimate Aero EV is slated to arrive in the second quarter of 09.

If, for some reason, you thought EV (Electric Vehicles) would be the death of motorsports or car enthusiasts.. think again! The technology involved in these cars open up whole new realms of enjoyment for the average car enthusiast. Within the next 10 years we are going to have some super fast and economical cars coming our direction.

A whole group of my friends are in love with skydiving and constantly browse the net while over at my house just checking out “diving vids” people post online. A large majority of the skydiving videos online are home-videos or enthusiast videos people make of themselves or their friends and post online at the end of the day (with some editing, and a catchy beat). The new skydiving video website is now online and already receiving a large amount of traffic (and using plenty of bandwidth to boot, gotta love those videos!) at the url SkyTu.be. I thought this was a very unique and catchy name for the site. Let me know what you think!
